Where did Visions come from?

Visions had its beginnings in the early days of Windows and Windows-based databases. The difficulty of tracking inspection and maintenance information lead to the idea of linking inspection sketches with inspection data in a database. In 1992, the first databases were developed in Microsoft Access and Borland Paradox, and sketches were included in this database using AutoCAD.

Working in collaboration with Nova Chemicals and Shell Canada, the concept was solidified, and some key features were incorporated: thickness data with scheduling, QA/QC documentation and static data sheets. When the first version was released in 1994, it included static data, inspection reports and thickness data for vessel, piping and tank modules. In 1995, another version (1.5) was released with several upgrades and improvements based on feedback from our users. We next addressed two main concerns: the speed and user-friendliness of the program with the next version, Visions 2.0, which was released in early 1997. Included was now a new RBI assessment module, which has been integrated, and is now central to Visions Enterprise.

We have continued to gain a lot of valuable development ideas and insight thanks to continuous consultation with our clients and we introduced several other changes including an interface with SAP. Finally, after 2 beta release versions, we released our new and improved Visions Enterprise. We kept the best features from Visions and Visions 2, and redesigned the platforms for programming and information storage. Visions Enterprise is now user configurable, stores attachments and dated notes and allows you to easily link components to equipment, among other things.
